Self Care Activities We Swear By!
1. Get Some Fresh Air
There is nothing better than going outside and getting some fresh air. Clear your mind and your being by just reconnecting with the outdoors. It’ll help you ground yourself. We love going for a nice walk, just clearing our minds and being one with nature. You can also go out for a run, sit and watch the sunset, or even just take a breather. Standing outside and breathing in the fresh air is honestly one of the most relaxing activities we can take part in.
2. Read a Book
Whether it’s a self help book, a crime novel, a super juicy romance story or even just a non-fiction piece on space… pick it up and give it a go. We love reading. It offers us a disconnect and escape from our own reality. It opens a door to a world that isn’t our own. This is a great option when you’re looking to give yourself a break or breather from your own life. It gives your mind a break from the stress you are experiencing and fills it with inspiring words or even problems from other people! Personally, we LOVE a good fiction novel. It clears our mind from what is going on inside of it and fully focuses on what is laid out in front of us.
3. Exercise, Your Body Will Thank You
Get up and move. Seriously! Our bodies were made to move and function. And getting your sweat on? Totally mind and soul clearing. We just FEEL better after a workout. Well, actually we feel sweaty, exhausted and somewhat hateful… but so so much better. Walk, jog, run, lift some weights, do yoga, you know… just move. However, do an exercise that YOU enjoy! Not one you think is “trending”. If yoga makes you feel better, then give it a go!
4. Dance it Out
Just trust us on this one. Music is the key to your soul. There are just some songs that instantly make us feel lighter, happier, and better. We love to put on some music, full blast obviously, and just dance and sing it out. If you’ve ever watched Greys Anatomy you know dance parties are a must when you’re feeling down or just need a boost overall. Give it a try, we swear by it!
5. Set Yourself a Skincare Routine
Taking care of your skin, is taking care of you! Make sure you give yourself enough time during the morning and the night to do your skincare routine. We feel like this is an essential self care daily activity as this ensures we are maintaining a healthy hygiene routine.
6. Relax, Relax, and Relax Some More
Cuddle up on the couch, watch some Netflix, knit a sweater, or take a bath! Relaxing can be whatever you want it to be. Whatever helps you feel most at peace, implement it into your daily schedule. Make time for the things that soothe your soul, clear your mind, and just help you to feel calm. We love lighting some candles, laying down and just listening to music. Just breathe, focus on you.
7. Start Meditating
This one is easier than you might think! Implement meditating as often as possible. It is a great way to just clear your being while feeling grateful for what you have. There are a few different forms of meditation, including focused, mindful and mantra- among others, so find one that works best for you.
8. Try Something New
Some people think self care revolves only around things that relax you, so when we suggest trying something new- something you’ve been dying to try as a form of self care, they are surprised by it. But they shouldn’t be! Self care is just that- SELF CARE! It is specific to the person who is practicing it. Your self care will differ from my self care, and my self care will differ from someone else’s. And that is ok! It is a personal practice. If you find solace in trying something new- like zip-lining- then do it! Whatever it is that helps you ground yourself and remind yourself how important you are, then do it. And, do it daily.
9. Refresh Your Routine
Take a look at your daily schedule and see if you can switch it up to be better for you. At the end of the day, if you don’t go to bed feeling happy (or remotely happy) then you aren’t living the life you should live. Try to tweak your daily routine as much as possible to give yourself time doing the things you love. See if you can refresh it to make it better for you! Eliminate things that just don’t work with the current you or the you you’re to become! It’s okay to eliminate things you used to love, but just don’t find yourself liking anymore. We are human! We learn, we evolve, we grow out of things, and that is okay!
10. Journal Your Thoughts and Feelings
We find journaling one of the best therapeutic practices. We know it might seem weird, but we promise it isn’t the same as the diary your 9 year old self kept on your bedside table. Journaling is a fantastic way to express your thoughts and feelings out loud without alerting them to a therapist or another person. This keeps everything private and confidential, but still puts it out into the universe and out of your mind. Basically, you are cleansing yourself of anything you want gone, or voicing thoughts you need to sort through.
We love journaling as it helps us deal with a lot of confusing feelings and reactions. Journaling can also be used to just express your wants and desires, how you’re coping, what you plan to achieve, or even just something to write in without thinking very hard. It’s truly freeing and something we recommend everyone tries out.
11. Get Enough Sleep
You need sleep. Your body, your mind, your spiritual self need to relax and refresh. Don’t feel guilty for sleeping in, or getting more than 8 hours a night. Your body is unique to you. Depending upon the physical, mental, or emotional strain you’ve been enduring, your sleep patterns will differ from your best friends or parents sleep cycles. That’s ok! At every stage in our life, our sleep cycle with shift. It is all dependent upon what your body and mind are going through, as that will affect your patterns greatly. Take as much sleep as you need to feel yourself again, as when we sleep, our bodies are recuperating and rejuvenating!
12. Remind Yourself How Badass You Are (Most Important Self Care Activity)
Speak to yourself. Trust us, it might sound strange, but it’s important. Tell yourself what you love about you, what you are proud of, and what you will accomplish in the future (because you can accomplish anything you put your mind to!). Remind yourself how amazing you are, how truly incredible your journey has been, and how far you are going to go. Just because you aren’t where you want to be, doesn’t mean that THIS YOU isn’t powerful. You are strong in every single variation of yourself. So be your own cheerleader! You have the power to lift yourself up and change your life with your own words. Be what you need yourself to be.
You are beautiful. You are powerful. You are kind. You are strong. You are courageous. You are resilient. You are incredible. You are brilliant. You are perfect. YOU ARE ENOUGH.
