The Best Self Care Ideas to Transform Your Life
1. Get Enough Sleep
As studies suggest, it’s best you get at least 7 to 9 hours of sleep every night. In order for your body to feel its best, you need your rest. We always recommend turning off the tv, putting away your phone and just going to sleep. Not only does your body need to rest, but so does your mind. Get your sleep in!
2. Set an Alarm
Setting an alarm will help you stay on track with your day and accomplish what you need to. Allowing yourself to sleep in is totally encouraged once in a while! But try not to let it happen everyday. It’s important you get what you need and want done, so you don’t have as much stress later on.
3. Make Your Bed
Make your bed. This will help you prevent yourself from diving back under the covers and tuning out the world (trust us, we want to too). We feel like making our bed helps us feel more accomplished, put together, and ready to conquer the day. It just feels more productive!
4. Wash Your Face
Self care includes washing your face. Sometimes we have those days where we forget to hygienically take care of ourselves. It happens, trust us, it does. Getting it done right when you wake up will help you remember how important taking care of YOU is. Put yourself first! Wash your face.
5. Brush Your Teeth
Grab that toothbrush and brush your teeth. It’s the same thing as washing your face, focus on yourself first. Even a simple action like brushing our teeth is taking care of our bodies physically and in a healthy sense. Do it for your oral health, it will in turn help with your mental health too.
6. Drink Your Water!
Wake up and drink a tall glass of water. This will make a huge difference in the way you feel! Make sure you get your daily water intake it, so that you feel refreshed. Remember, our bodies need water to function. Getting enough water in can help us attain our fitness goals as well as our health related goals as well!
7. Eat Balanced Meals
Eat to fuel your body and your brain. It’s okay for you to eat a cookie or pizza now and then. Don’t restrict yourself! However, try to eat foods that fuel you on a daily basis. Make sure you get your greens in, enough protein, carbs, etc. We recommend not limiting what you are allowed to eat, as sometimes dieting can do more harm than good. Eat what makes you feel good!
8. Plan Out Your Day
Remember to plan out your day accordingly. We don’t know why, but we find ourselves feeling way less stressed when our days are completely planned out. Put everything you need to do in writing and colour code what’s the most important to what’s the least important. This will keep your head from getting overwhelmed from what still needs to be done.
9. Go For a Walk
Go outside and move. For us, getting outside and walking is the best form of therapy. We love the fresh air on our face, it’s honestly beyond cleansing. Going for a walk can clear your mind and ease your soul. It’s not only mentally refreshing, but also emotionally refreshing.
10. Limit Social Media
Does anyone else feel like social media can sometimes feel exhausting? For us it is. Sometimes social media is just too much for our mental health and although it can offer some great resources, it actually does more good than harm. Self care is taking care of your body, mind, and soul. Don’t let something that damages the way you think and feel about yourself take over your free time. Focus on limiting or even eliminating social media to better your health. If you can’t completely cut it out of your life, eliminate those accounts or pages that are harmful to your mind.
11. Gratitude Journalling
Journal what you’re grateful for. Even if nothing big has happened, journal the little things. If you didn’t know, little things are actually huge things. Everything we have is something we can be grateful for, regardless of how small it might seem in that moment, it isn’t. Be grateful for what you have, who you have, where you are, where you’ve come from, the journey you took to get here, or even, where you plan on going. Be grateful!
12. Meditate
Meditation is something we honestly cannot recommend enough. It’s truly one of the best ways to feel at peace and in-tuned with your body. Slow down and just be here. Focus on the moment, tune out the world around you.
13. De-Clutter Your Space
Sometimes we feel overwhelmed because our space is overwhelming. It might not seem possible, but typically if your space or room is messy, then our minds can feel that pressure and stress. Clear your work or personal area and get to de-cluttering. This can help un-jumble your mind, and help it feel less stressed.
14. Listen to a Podcast or Read a Book
Listen to your favourite podcast or pick up a new book. For us, reading is truly a way to soothe your soul. We find reading helps us feel more at peace and detached from reality. Reading is honestly one of the best ways to escape the real world and get lost in another. It offers you some peace in that busy mind of yours!
Listening to a podcast or reading a book is a great way to decompress. Whether it’s something concerning mental or self help, crime, or even fiction, there is something out there for everyone.
15. Put Away Technology
It gets to that point at night where you should always disconnect from your device. Turn it on silent mode, plug it in, and just disconnect. There is nothing more important than being present in your current self. Don’t allow yourself to get completely wrapped up in the social world. It’s important you detach yourself from your technology so you can feel more in-tuned with your body. Delegating a time when technology is put away at night, can hugely impact the attachment you have to it.
16. Go To Bed Early
Start going to bed earlier! If you’re a night owl who likes to stay awake and then regret it in the morning, it’s time to turn in at a more decent hour. Your sleep is uber important. Resting your body and your mind is key to your mental health. So in order to get the proper amount of sleep every night, it’s important you turn in earlier, and give your body its deserved amount of rest.
